How to Build a Weekly Reset Routine
Carve out space for life, work, and creativity with a simple weekly habit.
Running a business, balancing family, and trying to keep up with life can leave anyone feeling frazzled. A weekly reset might feel like one more thing you can’t possibly add to your plate – but trust me, it’s a game changer! It’s like hitting the refresh button on your week.
Instead of reacting to what life throws at you, you can take control, find clarity, and set yourself up for a smoother week ahead.
Here’s how to create a weekly reset routine that works for you:
Step 1: Keep It Simple
Don’t overcomplicate things. A reset doesn’t have to take hours or cover everything in your life. Start with one or two small areas to focus on – whatever feels most pressing.
Examples:
If your desk is piling up with random bits of paper and scrappy notes, spend 10 minutes clearing it.
If your inbox is overwhelming, focus on deleting or organising just the past week’s emails.
What I Do:
My weekly reset always starts with me clearing my workspace and downloads folder. Throughout the week, I save images and documents without organising them, so this small task makes finding things the following week SOOOO much easier.
Step 2: Tailor It to Your Needs
Your reset should fit your life and priorities. Think about what feels cluttered or out of control – mentally, physically, or with your time.
Examples:
Maybe it’s doing a brain dump to clear mental clutter.
Planning your meals for the week to save time.
What I Do:
I plan my week in Notion. I block out time for client work, personal tasks, and, most importantly, time for my own projects (like this blog!)
This helps me see where my priorities lie and ensures I’m not neglecting my own goals.
Step 3: Pair It with a Routine
Habits stick better when they’re linked to something you already do.
Examples:
Pair your reset with your Sunday coffee.
Pair it with your Friday wind-down.
What I Do:
I do my reset on Friday afternoons after I’ve wrapped up client work. It’s a great way to mentally close out the week and feel prepared for Monday without working over the weekend.
Step 4: Celebrate the Progress
Remember, this is about progress, not perfection. Even spending 10 minutes on a reset can make a huge difference.
Examples:
Instead of trying to declutter your entire digital library, organise one folder. Next week, tackle another.
What I Do:
I set a timer for 10 minutes and tackle one small task, like matching payments in my accounting software. It’s a quick win that helps me stay on top of my finances without it becoming overwhelming.
Make It Yours
A weekly reset is a flexible tool. Start with what feels manageable, build from there, and adjust as you go.
